Can’t Lose Weight – Here Are The Reasons Why Not


Do you feel you are one of the many people who can’t lose weight, despite the fact that you are eating a healthy diet and are exercising? This can be a very frustrating and discouraging situation to be in and getting stuck in the dieting rut may even lead you to give up the idea of losing excess fat weight completely.

There are many reasons why your existing diet or weight loss plan has failed to produce the results you so wanted them to. Identifying them could help you find out the real reasons why you can’t lose weight and can help you change direction so you can achieve weight loss success.

The reasons you can’t lose weight

1) A cookie-cutter approach to diets or weight loss plans
There is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all weight loss formula and this is one of the biggest misconceptions people have about losing weight is that it works on everyone. Activity levels, age, metabolism and body type all come into consideration when embarking on a weight loss plan and most times it will need some tweaking and adjusting of calories and macro-nutrients (protein, carbohydrates and healthy fats) until slow but steady fat loss is achieved.

2) Focus on getting yourself healthy rather than dieting
One of the main reasons why you can’t lose weight is that as you become overweight you also become unhealthy. This means your metabolism has slowed down and your fat burning/fat storing hormones have become unbalanced. The only way to lose weight permanently is to rebuild better health for yourself and your body will give up its fat stores in the process.

Getting healthy means firstly rebuilding and re-toning lose muscle tissue which is the driver of your metabolism (the rate your body burns fuel). If this has been allowed to deteriorate through not doing enough muscle building and maintaining activity it will be one of the main reasons why you can’t lose weight.  Dieting will not fix this.

The more toned muscle tissue you have the more calories you will burn and the less gets stored as excess fat. Proper strength training exercise is the ONLY way to rebuild and tone up your muscle tissue to boost your fat burning engine. Just a couple of sessions each week are needed to do this though so it is not difficult.

3) Get rid of as much processed foods as possible
Yes, this means anything that comes in a box or a packet that has been manufactured by man. While you are eating these chemically laden, nutrient poor foods you can forget about losing weight. They mess up your metabolism and are another top reason why you can’t  lose weight. Get your butt back into the kitchen and prepare and cook natural whole foods from scratch and watch the body fat fall away.

4) What gets measured gets managed
If losing weight is important to you keeping a food journal will be one of the most important tools at your fingertips. If it goes into your mouth it goes into your journal – that is the number one rule. This is the way to regain control of your food intake so you can stop saying I can’t lose weight.

You need to become informed about macro-nutrients (protein, carbohydrates and fats) as the ratio of these is vital if you are to eat not only to lose fat but to regain a healthy fat burning metabolism for the long term. You can use your journal for just a few weeks or for a few days each week to keep you on track. It takes just a few minutes each day and is worth every second.

The fact that you can’t lose weight will be a thing of the past

So, you can now see that losing weight initially is one aspect and keeping it off for the long haul is the other half of the equation or you will be keeping on saying you can’t lose weight. The only way to achieve both goals is to make some permanent changes to both your activity levels and eating habits.
